West Lothian Council selected Ameresco as their energy solution partner through the Non Domestic Energy Efficiency (NCEE) framework for Public Sector Bodies in Scotland. Through detailed investment grade audits, significant energy efficiency opportunities were identified across 9 sites spanning primary and high schools, and a care home.

West Lothian Council now enjoys significant upgrades to its energy infrastructure. The Investment Grade Proposal (NGP) prioritized the ECMs to deliver the greatest value to the Council. The suite of ECMs are delivering:
- Optimal use of the West Lothian Council’s funding
- Upgrades to ageing energy infrastructure with new technology
- Extended life and optimised operation of existing equipment
- Improved comfort levels for staff, students, and building users – Better environment for children studies
- Reduced maintenance costs (£31,532 saved annually) and enhanced environment
- Significant reduction in annual energy and maintenance costs
- Community workforce development benefits via labor apprenticeships
- Improvements saved 604 tonnes of CO2 per year

West Lothian Council and Ameresco worked in close partnership to ensure the optimal solution was identified, taking the requirements of all stakeholders into account during the process. The project included several energy conservation measures (ECMs) that were implemented across the 9 buildings in scope, deploying the available funding to deliver the best outcomes for the council.
- Interior LED lighting and controls upgrades
- Building Management System (BMS) optimisation
- VSD inverters fitted to pool air handling units (AHUs) and pumps
- Recommissioned 48 kW CHP unit
- 50 kW of rooftop-mounted solar PV
