The Kefalonia Wind Project is possible through Ameresco’s partnership with a subsidiary of Greece’s largest power generation company, Public Power Corporation (PPC) SA.

In addition to improving Greece’s overall environmental footprint, the Kefalonia Wind Project delivers the following benefits:
- Reduces carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 22,000 tons each year
- Generates the equivalent of 4,753 cars not being driven or 28,731 acres of pine forest preserved
- Helps preserve the natural beauty and resources of the island
- PPCR will return 3% of revenues received from the project to local governments and communities as an added cost savings benefit
Solution
To advance sustainability initiatives in Greece, Public Power Corporation (PPC) SA’s subsidiary, PPC Renewables, tasked Ameresco with the design and construction of four wind turbines as part of a design, build, operate and maintain (DBOM) contract. The €9.8 million renewable energy project included:
- Design and construction of four 2.3 MW wind turbines
- O&M under an additional 14-year fixed price contract
